# Open Supernova Catalog (sne.space)

> The Open Supernova Catalog (OSC) is an open-access, community-curated repository containing data for over 110,222 supernovae and explosive cosmic transients from 1000 AD to 2026+. It provides multi-band optical, UV, and infrared light curves, calibrated spectra, host galaxy associations, NASA ADS literature provenance, and cosmological distance metrics.

## Core Web Interfaces

- [/sne/{name}/](https://sne.space/sne/SN2011fe/): Professional Astrophysics Cockpit featuring interactive multi-band WebGL light curves, vertically stacked calibrated spectra with rest-frame de-redshifting, Aladin Lite v3 sky viewer, and DESI DR10 host galaxy optical cutouts.
- [/sne/{name}/story](https://sne.space/sne/SN2011fe/story): Observer Dossier & Story Mode presenting plain-English explosion narratives, distance in millions of light-years, telescope visibility aperture ratings, and discovery context.

## API & Structured Data Endpoints

- [/api/names.json](https://sne.space/api/names.json): Name resolution index mapping aliases, survey internal names (ZTF, ATLAS, Gaia, PS1), and IAU designations to canonical catalog identifiers.
- [/api/stats.json](https://sne.space/api/stats.json): Real-time catalog summary statistics including total event counts, spectral type distributions, and survey contributions.

## Model Context Protocol (MCP) & AI Agent Tools

The Open Supernova Catalog hosts a native Model Context Protocol (MCP) server accessible via HTTP JSON-RPC 2.0 or local stdio:

- **Remote MCP Endpoint**: `https://sne.space/mcp` (POST with JSON-RPC 2.0: `tools/list`, `tools/call`, `initialize`)
- **MCP Manifest**: [/.well-known/mcp.json](https://sne.space/.well-known/mcp.json) and [/mcp/manifest.json](https://sne.space/mcp/manifest.json)
- **MCP Server Card**: [/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json](https://sne.space/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json)
- **WebMCP In-Browser Registry**: Available automatically on all pages via `window.navigator.modelContext` and `document.modelContext` (see `/assets/webmcp.js`)
- **Stdio Command**: `python3 serve/mcp_server.py`
